The Online Growth of Next the Retailer… and How This Benefits Customers

Retailer Next announces an upturn in their online sales

Next Retailer Campaign- Spend or Splurge - the Shopper Discounts and Rewards blog

High street fashion retailer Next recently announced their extremely positive results from the first half of 2013, with 2.2% sales growth to £1.7bn. This was due in large part to online sales, with their Next Directory sales growing by 8.3% to £597.6m. This led to a 13.4% growth in Next’s profits, which were £156.1m.

Next is currently running a ‘spend or splurge’ campaign which has taken over the site.

the attraction of flexible returns options

Having a clear and simple returns policy is essential for fashion retailers, as sizing varies through different lines and we often struggle to find the perfect fit. Part of the genius of the online store ASOS is its simple and free returns policy. ASOS allows its customers to return any of their purchases via freepost and receive a full refund. Next seems to have learned from this; offering both in-store returns and collection services free of charge.

offering flexible shipping options

One of the key benefits of Next’s online store is their excellent variety of shipping options. Next offers next day delivery for its customers keen to get their purchases as soon as possible, and the possibility of collecting in store. Many online stores don’t see the value in offering these options yet, however, they are clearly in demand, as 59% of us have reserved an item online and picked it up in store, according to a report by Webloyalty.

international shipping

Next’s online site also offers international shipping. This can be challenging, as it entails creating additional sites in foreign languages to appeal to different cultures. However, this has become increasingly popular among UK online retailers who see the positives of this as it widens their potential market exponentially and raises their profile internationally.
